The treasure chests of Sher Shah
You will find three chests depicted in the exhibits of Sher Shah Suri. In these models, you can find out about the treasures of the kingdom of Sher Shah. The panels accompanying these exhibits tell you how Sher Shah invented the concepts of denominations and created the copper paisa, the silver rupiah and the gold mohurs. This system became so popular that the Moghul emperors later copied the idea. Even the rupee we use today is derived from Sher Shah’s rupiyah. What could you buy for a rupiyah more than 500 years ago? Quite a bit, really! You will find out how much milk, how much wheat and how much onions cost in those days. Compared to now, a rupiyah was worth a lot more!
