Handaxe

It is a medium-sized handaxe prepared on sandstone, characterised by large, deep primary flake-scars. The earliest type of hand axe is called the Acheulean hand axe and is from the Palaeolithic Age, the oldest part of the Stone Age. Hand axes were made from different types of hard rocks. Studies of surface-wear patterns reveal hand axes were used to butcher and skin, dig in soil and cut wood or other plant materials.
