"Nepal- Where the Deities Reside" showcases the popular theme of artistic creations from the country, encompassing a wide range of genres that reflect the genius of Nepali creativity throughout history and in the present day. Artistic production in Nepal can be considered a living heritage, where artists draw inspiration from spiritual, philosophical traditions and iconographic sources before giving free rein to their creativity. These artworks through their intricate detail evokes a sense of sacred beauty and serve various purposes, including veneration, enhancing spiritual aura, and adding aesthetic value to secular spaces. The exhibition, inspired by eastern philosophy, narrates the cyclic creation of the universe following its last destruction. Through seventy-six artworks by seventy artists, the display aims to impress upon visitors the vastness of Nepal's syncretic spiritual atmosphere, as the abode of deities. The artworks present from the formless to the primary and myriad incarnations and manifestations of the divine, showcased through traditional and contemporary paintings, straw art, wood and metal statues made using lost wax and repousse techniques, filigree with semi-precious stone inlay, and ceramics. This exhibition aspires to familiarize and inspire you about the highly acclaimed arts of Nepal, and walk you through the display as if exploring the lanes and alleys of the old cities of Nepal. In these spaces, deities reside in small, ornate open shrines, some located below ground level, some in larger magnificent temples and others in grandiose courtyards. Journey with this exhibition, into a realm where time stands still, and allow the ethereal allure of Nepali artistry to awaken dormant memories or kindle a longing to embark on a creative experience.
