Shalbhanjika
Shalbhanjika- The word 'Shalbhanjika' originates from the Sanskrit language, which means ' a woman breaking the branch of the saal tree’. She is also known as 'Madanika', ‘Shilabalika’ and 'Goddess of Motherhood'. It is probable that this form of the ‘Goddess of Motherhood’ is from the time of childbirth, during which the pain of blissful motherly love forms the Tribhangi Mudra, and it breaks due to tightly holding and squeezing the branches of the saal tree. The sculpture is from the shunga period and is a rare and unique sculpture of a woman in tribhanga posture. The statue of 'Shalbhanjika' was obtained from Rajendra Nagar, Patna, and is polished and made of sandstone.
